Inspired by his son who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) when he was 9 months old, Ryan “The Dude” Weimer one day had an amazing idea.
In 2008, he asked his Keaton, “What do you want to be for Halloween?” according to his websiteMagicWheelchair.com.
While pondering how to make this happen, Weimer realized he could just turn his son’s wheelchair into a fully functional pirate ship that would sail up and down the block for candy.
Now, every year, he builds his son Keaton a brand new costume along with five other chosen kids. He can only select five because it is expensive and can take 100-200 hours to build one costume.
In order to be selected, kids have to send in a 1-3 minute video describing their idea to his website.
Then, kids can watch their idea become reality. Look at this awesome “How To Train Your Dragon” costume.
