Explained: Connectivity of Security camera Systems.
Technology based products are one of the trickier purchases one can make on paper.
There are a few noteworthy examples of this in the current markets, as processors and electronics are far enough ahead that the main determining factors on how effective a device or system is comes down to things other than pure hardware specifications.
CPU Manufacturers
It used to be easy - the more 'Mhz', the faster the CPU. but now, unless your right into the gritty details of how Intel and AMD are making their kit, its hard to work out which is the 'best' cpu. - mobile platforms are dominated by battery-friendly processors which arguably are more usable because of the sheer convenience and battery life.
Touch based Devices - Notably Tablets and Smart Phones
Most tablets are far less powerful than laptops - but are gaining more widespread use due to touch based screens and software. Specs under the hood are not as important, and it can be said that the ipad has a 'Inferior Hardware Specification' compared to android equivalents - that are often cheaper.
Smart Phone Revolution
So what happened? It all comes down to usability and convenience. Current market stats suggest that apple and android based phones dominate 80% of the market share for mobile phones. Smart phones with multitudes of apps allow us to easily and conveniently access services like email, web and other services more conveniently. So its usability, convenience, and connectivity that have captured the marketplace.
Security Camera Systems Base Technology
There are (3) Three Main Security Camera Systems on the Market Today
1. Standard Definition Security Camera Systems or sometimes called 'analog' systems, these are the evolved camera systems that cover 70% of the market. These camera systems are limited in resolution, but are usually quick and cost effective to install. Cabling is dedicated runs from the camera to the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) per camera.
2. IP Security Camera Systems
IP based systems are more based on modern IT practices, and tend to be modified Servers and run on IP backbones such as existing data networks (or, more often, have dedicated IP networks cabled for them). Resolution can be anywhere from low range to HD quality.
3. High Definition 1080p Security Camera Systems
HD security camera systems are the newer system, and are a redesign of the security camera system standards. these systems are similar in cabling structure to Standard Definition camera systems, with a 1080p image as a result.
The HDCCTV Standards also allow for expansion to much higher resolutions in the future.
Usability, Convenience and Connectivity
How does base technology impact your decision when looking to install a security camera system?
To use an analogy, when your buying a car, its like asking 'which engine? V4, V6 or a V8" But, as with cars, each manufacturer handles the 'look-and-feel' aspect very differently.
Base technolgy impacts the image maximum resolution. But just as important are the levels of usability, convenience and connectivity. Smart phone and remote site usage of security camera systems have made them much easier for the user to view, search and playback footage on.
Whichever of the (3) base systems you choose, Symetrix has equal connectivity and highly developed apps for you to use.
Having an easy to use app to connect to your system, live view quickly, be able to easily search and playback archived footage, zoom and download are some of the most important uses of a security camera system.
Part of our mission, as a innovator, is to develop and bring to our customers the very best in app technology to allow for the most usable system on the market.
